Gympass, the world’s largest corporate wellbeing platform, today announced its acquisition of Trainiac, a leader in 1-on-1 online personal training, now becoming Trainiac by Gympass. The move will add a new level of personalization to the Gympass experience; helping users to establish new habits and long-lasting fitness routines, and adding significant value to Gympass’ corporate clients looking to support an increasingly decentralized workforce.

Since May 2020, personal training has proved to be a valuable addition to Gympass’ ecosystem, as the company expanded its offering during the pandemic and secured a further $200m in funding in June 2021, seeing over 750,000 online personal training sessions booked by more than 50,000 unique users.

Through Trainiac by Gympass, users will be paired with a certified coach to build a custom fitness program to be delivered in the app and enabling them to get the most out of Gympass’ network of partners. The trainer and user can then leverage in-app tools including video, text and voice messaging, workout schedules and further health-metric tracking, to create a personalized, effective, and sustainable fitness solution, regardless of where the user is in their wellness journey.

“We’re thrilled to add Trainiac to the Gympass family and see the acquisition as a pivotal decision to continue our growth as a business, whilst providing even more value to our users at a time where health and wellness are at the top of people’s priorities,” said Cesar Carvalho, co-founder and CEO of Gympass. “The complexity of modern life means that beyond access to venues, many users require additional support, accountability and motivation to remain committed to their fitness goals. This acquisition will help us to empower our customers to get the very best out of our network by bringing a new level of personalization to the Gympass experience, and making 1-on-1 personal training more accessible than ever before.”

The Trainiac by Gympass offering will be made available for US customers starting in early 2022, with a global rollout to progress through the remainder of the year. All Trainiac employees will be absorbed into Gympass’ employment, and a dedicated product team based in Seattle will be built to assist with product development and management.

“Our goals are so closely aligned that it felt like the perfect opportunity. We’ve always aimed to help people create sustained, long-term wellness habits,” said Akshay Ahooja, CEO and Co-founder of Trainiac. “We’ve found that working 1-on-1 with an expert is an incredibly powerful way to build healthy habits, and through Gympass, we’ll be able to expand our service to its massive and diverse audience and help them achieve their wellness goals."
